Sheffield United vs Oxford United Predictions
Blades’ Firepower Can See Off Struggling Oxford
Sheffield United should be backed to beat Oxford at Bramall Lane on Sunday. The hosts are more prolific in front of goal than their opponents and that edge up front could prove decisive.
Both teams have lost more games than they’ve won this season, with Sheffield United in 15th place and Oxford 23rd. The hosts have ten wins and 13 losses, while Oxford have five wins and 13 defeats from their 25 games.
Sheffield United kept up their recent winning trend with a 3-1 victory over Leicester on Thursday, making it two wins in the six matches in which they have been odds-on this season. They restricted Leicester to one shot on target and, true to form, the visitors did all their scoring after the break – 74% of Sheffield United’s goals against have come in the second half of their games this season.
Sheffield United’s current form makes for encouraging reading. They have won four of their last five Championship home games, including their last two.
Oxford’s current form is underwhelming. They have not won any of their last six Championship away games and have lost five of their last seven matches overall.
Sheffield United are in excellent form, having won three of their last four Championship matches. They have gone six home games without defeat. In contrast, Oxford have lost five of their last seven and are on a run of two straight away defeats.
Oxford have been finding it hard to keep out their opponents lately, having failed to keep a clean sheet in 18 of their last 20 Championship games. They have not recorded a shutout in their last nine away games.
The goals have been flowing for Sheffield United in recent games. They have scored an average of 1.83 goals a game in their six Championship games against teams in the bottom six this season, and have found the net at least three times in three of their last four matches.
There have been over 2.5 goals in 15 of Sheffield United’s 25 Championship games this season, and with four of Oxford’s 13 league defeats coming by a 2-1 scoreline, a 2-1 home win is the correct-score pick.
