Shrewsbury vs Accrington Stanley Predictions

  • Accrington Stanley are unbeaten in their last five meetings with Shrewsbury Town, a run which includes three games on the road.
  • Shrewsbury are winless in seven league games following an opening-day draw with Morecambe.
  • The visitors, meanwhile, have lost just one of their last six competitive contests.

Accrington look to continue strong run

Having gone unbeaten throughout their last five head-to-head meetings with Shrewsbury Town, John Coleman’s Accrington Stanley, targeting a third consecutive top-half finish in the third tier, will be optimistic regarding their prospects of picking up their first win of 2022-23 when they visit the New Meadow on Saturday.

Indeed, Accrington have only lost one of their last six competitive games – against Bolton Wanderers in April – after snatching a 2-2 draw against Charlton Athletic in the 96th minute last time out. Although they will need to improve upon a dire defensive record after shipping a huge 80 League One goals last term, Stanley will be hopeful of a result on Saturday after winning two of their last three away games.

Shrewsbury, meanwhile, were held to a goalless draw by likely strugglers Morecambe on the opening day, and are now winless in seven league matches after tailing off badly last campaign. Furthermore, they’ve now failed to score in each of their last three competitive games, and didn’t net across their two meetings with the Accy last season.

Visitors set for a result

Given Shrewsbury’s recent struggles and Acrrington’s strong record at the New Meadow, backing Coleman’s visitors on the double chance market looks a strong play for Saturday’s contest.

Meanwhile, both teams have netted in seven of Accrington’s last nine league games, so their porous rearguard could be breached in a 2-1 win for the visitors.
