Slovakia vs Wales Predictions

Wales face a must-win clash in this week’s visit to Slovakia. Ryan Giggs and his men could be out of the running for Euro 2020 by the weekend at this rate, as they are lagging six points behind Thursday’s opponents. Slovakia know a win here is a huge step towards the finals next summer, but can Wales recapture their French spirit of 2016 against one of their group stage opponents from the last Euros?

Slovakia are heading into this game following a huge win at Hungary, a victory which has helped them in a very tight group. They are currently second, but there’s just a point between the current top three with only two spots at Euro 2020 up for grabs. Slovakia’s relegation in the Nations League means this is their only shot at making the tournament.

Meanwhile, Wales are left lagging behind the trio as they have just six points from their first four games. The 2016 semi-finalists are aiming for a return to the Euros, but their uninspiring win over Azerbaijan did little to boost their chances. Wales very nearly fell out of the race in what should have been their easiest game of the group.

There are fears that Wales will struggle in this clash, while Giggs seems to be under serious pressure after a tough 2019. The visitors have failed to build up the momentum Chris Coleman achieved on the way to the last Euros, while the performances have been really underwhelming. After back to back defeats in their two away games in this group, the Welsh are in trouble going into this clash.

Slovakia see this as an opportunity to knock out a rival for second while keeping themselves in a strong position. They will be chasing a win here, which comes after some strong home form. The hosts have won 11 of their last 14 home matches, which suggests that they are overpriced ahead of this clash. With Wales losing four of their last five away games – including all of the last three – this should be a home win for Slovakia. We’re backing them to take the points this week, while we’re going for a 2-0 victory for the hosts.
