      Southampton to Win

      Reason for tip

Southampton look the best bet at home to Oxford. They are sixth, have won four of their last five at St Mary’s and have lost only one of their last ten home league games. They are solid defensively too, with five clean sheets in seven, and Oxford have been leaking goals, without a clean sheet in five of their last seven. Southampton also carry a reliable goal threat, scoring in 12 straight, so they should have the edge.

      Southampton 1-0

      Reason for tip

Southampton 1-0 is the correct-score pick. They have been excellent defensively at home, conceding less than a goal per game and regularly keeping clean sheets. Oxford often lose by fine margins, with 12 of their 17 defeats coming by a single goal. Southampton won their last match 1-0, and this looks like another controlled home performance where one goal could be enough.

      Southampton vs Oxford United Predictions

Saints can edge Oxford at St Mary’s

Southampton should be backed to continue their winning run at home to Oxford on Saturday. Tonda Eckert’s side have won their last two games at St. Mary’s Stadium and will be confident of getting the better of Matt Bloomfield’s team.

They are sixth in the Championship, 16 places and 21 points above Oxford, with a record of 16 wins, 12 draws and ten defeats from their 38 games this season. The visitors are 22nd, with nine wins, 12 draws and 17 losses.

Southampton maintained their winning habit with a 1-0 victory over Norwich on Wednesday, thanks to a first-half goal from Finn Azaz. The result means that Southampton have now won seven of the 15 matches in which they have been odds-on this season.

Southampton have been in good form at home, losing just one of their last ten games in the Championship. They have been winners in four of their last five home matches, with their only defeat since January coming against Hull.

Southampton have been impressive defensively at home this season, conceding just 14 goals in 18 Championship games – an average of 0.78 goals per game. They have kept five clean sheets in their last seven matches.

Southampton have been in fine form going forward, finding the net in 18 of their last 20 Championship games. They have averaged two goals a game in their ten matches against bottom-six sides this season, and have scored in 12 consecutive games, including a recent 5-0 victory over QPR.

The visitors have looked vulnerable at the back, with Oxford failing to keep a clean sheet in five of their last seven Championship games.

Southampton were 1-0 winners against Norwich in their last Championship game and, with 12 of Oxford’s 17 reverses this season being by a single goal, a narrow home win looks on the cards. Back Southampton to win 1-0.
