Sparta Prague and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Shamrock have struggled so far this season with last season’s Irish champions currently fifth in the league while Sparta Prague have not lost a competitive fixture since March. The Czech’ sides experience at continental level should see them through, however they have not been strong defensively at home recently and so the visitors could still grab a goal.

Sparta Prague 2-1

Reason for tip

Three of Sparta Prague’s last four victories in front of their own fans have come via a 2-1 and, with the Irish side chasing the game and in need of goals, a repeat of this score for the hosts could be in store.

Sparta Prague vs Shamrock Rovers Predictions

  • The Maroons last lost a competitive fixture in March, against Liverpool
  • Rovers have not won any of their last four away matches in all competitions
  • Sparta hold a 2-0 lead from the first leg in Tallaght

No luck for the Irish as Prague prevail

Goals from Veljko Birmancevic and Tomas Wiesner secured a 2-0 first leg victory away from home for Sparta Prague and the Czech champions will be confident in securing their spot in the third qualifying round when they face Shamrock Rovers for the second leg.

The Maroons have been in impressive form since being thrashed 6-1 by Liverpool back in March, winning 13 and losing none of their 16 matches since in all competitions – including a current seven game unbeaten run at home.

Shamrock meanwhile have had a difficult time of things in the League of Ireland this season, with Rovers currently fifth and 13 points off of leaders Shelbourne, while they have only reached two group stages of European competitions since 2010.

Sparta Prague’s experience at this level should see the Czech outfit comfortably past the out-of-sorts Rovers. Three of their last four home victories in all competitions have come via a 2-1 scoreline and a repeat of this result could be on the cards with Shamrock in need of an attacking performance.
