Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Spezia last five league games, as well as in six of the last seven matches to feature Roma. With Spezia unbeaten in five Serie A outings and Roma avoiding defeat in their last six, punters may wish to avoid the results markets.

Roma 1-0

Reason for tip

Roma beat Spezia twice last season, with both fixtures containing under 2.5 goals, claiming a 1-0 victory on this ground in February. Only three Serie A teams have better defensive records than the Giallorossi this term, while all but four have outscored Spezia.

Spezia vs Roma Predictions

  • Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of Spezia’s last five Serie A games.
  • Roma, meanwhile, have seen a maximum of two goals scored in six of their last seven matches.
  • Spezia’s five-game unbeaten run in Serie A may be enough to put punters off backing Roma.

Can Spezia spring a surprise?

Spezia may have suffered their first defeat since the World Cup when they were routed 5-2 by Atalanta in the Coppa Italia on Thursday, but Luca Gotti’s men are still unbeaten in their last five Serie A games, and they will surely relish the prospect of hosting heavyweight opponents in Roma next time out. While Jose Mourinho’s team are themselves unbeaten in their last six outings, they will be wary of a fixture which represents a potential banana skin.

Spezia did make changes to their line-up against Atalanta, having claimed a creditable draw against the same opponents a fortnight earlier. Gotti’s men have been solid in recent weeks, seeing under 2.5 goals scored in three of their last five league games, while they have not lost on home soil since facing Fiorentina on October 30. A lack of goals, however, may prevent Spezia from climbing much further than their current position of 15th, with only four Serie A teams netting fewer than their 17 goals this campaign.

Roma clinched a crucial 2-0 win over Fiorentina last time out, making it back-to-back wins since they rescued a last-gasp draw at Milan. Mourinho’s team have not always been free-flowing this term, underperforming their expected goals tally by a greater margin than any other Serie A side (23 goals from 30.5 xG), but they are able to rely on a solid backline – the Giallorossi have seen under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last seven matches, keeping three clean sheets in their last four.

Cagey affair likely when Giallorossi visit

Only Juventus, Napoli and Lazio have conceded fewer than Roma’s 16 Serie A goals against this campaign, and they will likely need to rely on that solidity to emerge victorious here. With Spezia capable of upsetting the odds, we’re backing under 2.5 goals to be scored.

Roma beat Spezia twice last season, with both fixtures containing under 2.5 goals. A 1-0 win for the Giallorossi – mirroring the result they managed on this ground last February – could represent a decent correct score prediction.
