Sporting Lisbon Over 2.5 Team Goals

Reason for tip

Sporting have invested in their forward line after averaging 2.47 goals per home game last season. The hosts hit their stride going forward in the back-half of the season and having added Viktor Gyokeres in attack they should prove to be a real attacking force, especially having tweaked their approach to play the Swede in between two of last season’s top attacking players.

Sporting Lisbon 4-1

Reason for tip

Vizela were beaten at each of the top six last season and they lost 2-1 at home to Sporting in their final game of the campaign. The hosts won by a single goal just once at home last term and with attacking improvements alongside the departure of a key defensive midfielder the hosts should see more goals at both ends.

Viktor Gyokeres To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Gyokeres can pick-up where he left off with Coventry last season. The striker had 21 goals in the Championship and he shouldn’t find the opening game against Vizela much of a culture shock. He lines up in an attack-minded Sporting side and the forward should make an immediate impact.

Sporting Lisbon vs Vizela Predictions

  • Sporting averaged 2.47 goals per home game last season
  • The hosts have improved their attack by adding Viktor Gyokeres
  • The striker hit 21 Championship goals last term and he shouldn’t fear a side like Vizela

Sporting back on the front foot

After falling to fourth in the Primeira Liga last term, Sporting have a point to prove this season. They will be looking to make a statement from the off, which is bad news for Vizela.

The hosts have made some big moves this summer, with Manuel Ugarte heading to PSG while Pedro Porro’s move to Tottenham was confirmed. The club have brought in close to £100 million to make up for their lack of Champions League football, investing some of that in their forward line.

The hosts intend to be a force going forward this term, upgrading their front three by making Trincao’s loan move permanent and adding Viktor Gyokeres. With those signings, the hosts should make some waves domestically this term.

Hosts to put on a show

Sporting’s move for Gyokeres is an interesting one. It’s not often you see a striker move from the Championship to a top continental league, with the Portuguese side splashing out a club-record £20.5 million. He did hit 21 goals and provided 12 assists in the Championship last term, so the 25-year-old is a class act. While he’s stepping up to a top division, he shouldn’t find a side like Vizela overly demanding, so look to the Swede to score on his debut.

Trincao returned after a 10-goal haul in the league last term, while he really found his feet towards the end of the campaign as Sporting started to click. He and Pedro Goncalves – who scored 20 goals across 50 games last season – will flank Gyokeres and the Portuguese giants can call upon Marcus Edwards from the bench.

Last season the hosts averaged 2.47 goals per game at home and with an upgrade in attack they can prove to be an even more impressive attacking force. They meet a Vizela side who are expected to be a little more open under Pablo Villar and as a result, take Sporting to rack up the goals in a high-scoring win.
