Stuttgart 2-1

Reason for tip

Stuttgart have scored two or more goals in 10 of their 12 home Bundesliga matches this season. They can strike twice, despite Union’s defensive improvements of late and author a 2-1 win. Sebastian Houness’ side have kept only one clean sheet in their last 11 Bundesliga matches while Union have scored exactly one goal in four of their last seven matches.

Swabians will be too strong for Union

Stuttgart should be too strong for Union Berlin to handle when the two sides meet in the Bundesliga this Friday.

Despite a recent upturn in form that saw them go four games unbeaten, Nenad Bjelica’s men could not resist at home to Borussia Dortmund last week and fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Union have beaten only one team currently in the top half of the table all season and look ill-equipped to combat Stuttgart’s frightening frontline of  Sehrou Guirassy and Deniz Undav.

Guirassy’s goals to make the difference

Guirassy grabbed his 19th and 20th league goals of the campaign in Stuttgart’s 3-2 win at Wolfsburg last weekend – a remarkable return from just 18 appearances. He, alone, could make the difference in this match given he has scored only three goals fewer than the visitors have as a club in 24 games this season.

And that is still Union’s biggest problem. They have tidied up the defensive mistakes enough to suggest they will be safe come the end of the campaign, but any wins will need to be ground out.

Teams have not generally been able to do that against the Swabians, who average almost three goals per game at home. Stuttgart have the momentum and quality to roll on to another three points in this clash and could probably do it with a bit to spare.
