Switzerland Women vs Netherlands Women Predictions
- Switzerland have lost only one of their last 25 European Championship games by more than one goal.
- The Netherlands are without their captain and first-choice keeper while leading light Vivianne Miedema looks set to miss out again.
- The Dutch have been defensively poor in the tournament and there are signs that Mark Parsons is struggling to communicate with the squad.
Netherlands are nowhere near their best
There are worrying signs eminating from the Dutch camp that makes them look vulnerable to a Swiss side with a solid tournament record in Sunday’s decisive Group C fixture. Vivianne Miedema missed training on Friday after sitting out the defending champions’ 3-2 win over Portugal on Wednesday and Mark Parsons’ side will struggle again without their leading light.
Jackie Groenen has recovered from Covid and did train with the rest of the group, but they are still without their injured captain and first-choice goalkeeper – both injured earlier in the tournament. Just as concerning for some will be the comments of Jill Roord about Parsons’ long tactical team meetings and hints of discord about his communication style.
Their performances on the pitch so far have been unconvincing and they look brittle defensively – something the Swiss can certainly exploit at Bramall Lane. La Nati have been inconsistent in their opening two games, giving up an early two-goal advantage to Portugal before tiring in the closing stages in a 2-1 loss to Sweden that was too close for the winners’ comfort.
La Nati can do some damage
Nils Nielsen’s side are capable of scoring against anyone, but can’t keep things tight enough at the back so a both teams to score bet should have legs here. However, their record in European Championship matches down the years suggests they are equally adept at ensuring a close contest – so backing them to deny the Dutch victory by more than two goals is a solid choice too.
A 2-1 Netherlands win is the best correct score forecast here, although the manner of the favourites’ displays so far suggests they may need to score more than twice in order to get the result they desire.
