Tottenham Hotspur vs Gillingham Predictions
Tottenham Hotspur continued their steady but solid start to the Premier League season at the weekend as they beat Sunderland 1-0 at home. In all honesty it could have been any scoreline with the amount of chances they created, but three points is three points and they will be happy to remain in the top four.
This comes after a 4-0 hammering of Stoke, a draw at home to Liverpool, a narrow victory against Crystal Palace, and a draw at Goodison Park in the Premier League. However, Spurs’ one defeat could prove to be their most damaging. Last week they hosted Monaco at Wembley in their first Champions League group stage match and came away after a 2-1 defeat.
All focus will now be on qualifying from their Champions League group, and it is a solid prediction that the League Cup will be low on the agenda. They have a trip to Middlesbrough at the weekend and a trip to CSKA Moscow next Tuesday, so we’re expecting a massive amount of squad rotation for this League Cup tie.
However, that should still be enough to get them past League One side Gillingham. The visitors lost 2-1 at Port Vale on Saturday to make it four games without a victory. Three of these four have been defeats, and it was only the middle of August that they were thrashed 5-0 at Scunthorpe.
Gillingham don’t have many injury concerns and know they will be facing a weakened Spurs side, but the fact remains that the hosts will still have a significant advantage in the talent department as well as the home advantage.
Away from home Gillingham have conceded 12 goals in their last six games, with five of those games being against League One opposition. They did manage to see off Watford in the League Cup, but the Spurs’ backup brigade are going to be a lot tougher to deal with. The hosts will be eager to please and fighting for a more regular position in the starting line up, so considering Gillingham’s defensive record on the road backing Tottenham Hotspur Over 2.5 Team Goals looks a good bet. I’m going for that along with a 3-1 correct score prediction at 9/1.
