Champions look ready to hit their groove

Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise have made a sticky start to the campaign with a Super Cup loss to Club Brugge and a draw with Antwerp in their league opener last week, but they should rediscover their winning touch when they entertain OH Leuven on Sunday.

A missed penalty from Promise David meant they had to be content with a point in their first league game, but they take on a Leuven team who have brought their shaky defence into the new season.

Leuven’s defending is a concern

Leuven looked to be on the verge of an opening victory when they were 2-0 up against Charleroi last week, but they were left crestfallen when they conceded twice in injury-time and had to be content with a solitary point.

That was the fifth successive occasion that they have conceded at least twice and while USG came through this fixture with a 1-0 win in March, this looks set to be more open, so expect the champions to claim their first win of the campaign in a match that contains more than two goals.

USG are not necessarily prolific so a 2-1 home success may appeal from a correct-score perspective.
