Uruguay have found the right formula
Uruguay face Colombia in the most evenly-poised Copa America quarter-final of 2021 according to the betting.
La Celeste gradually picked up momentum on their way to finishing second in Group A and are marginal favourites over a Colombia side that had to settle for third place in Group B.
Uruguay’s strength remains its defence, which is marshalled by Diego Godin and Jose Maria Gimenez, but coach Oscar Tabarez has spent the last month experimenting with all sorts of different formations and combinations.
After trying a flat 4-4-2 and three at the back for a couple of games, he seems to have found the right formula with a 4-4-2 diamond that allows Giorgian De Arrascaeta the freedom to create behind veteran strikers Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
Colombia have been trying to cope without discarded playmaker James Rodriguez – and largely failing as their record of only three tournament goals suggests.
Neither of coach Reinaldo Rueda’s preferred starting strikers Duvan Zapata or Luis Muriel have scored at the Copa and Uruguay may not be the best opponent to face in that kind of form.
Tabarez’s side may win a close one here, but the bet has an outstanding chance of landing here is the Under 2.5 goals proposition.
Uruguay have not been involved in many high-scoring games at all in the last 12 months and we can see this one following a familiar pattern.
