Celta Vigo to Win

Reason for tip

Celta did the league double over Valencia last season and have a strong record against their hosts going back further, with four wins and just one defeat in the last seven meetings. The visitors were the third best travellers in La Liga last term, behind only Barcelona and Real Madrid, and they can raid the Mestalla against a Valencia side who haven’t particularly strengthened over the summer.

Celta Vigo 2-1

Reason for tip

A Celta win is predicted but they may concede in victory. Both teams scored in both meetings last season and Valencia had a solid strike rate at home, a 2-1 away win is the pick.

Valencia vs Celta Vigo Predictions

  • Only Real Madrid and Barcelona had better away records than Celta in La Liga last season
  • Celta did the league double over Valencia last season
  • Valencia have lost two of their last three pre-season games

Mestalla farewell begins for Valencia

This season is set to be Valencia’s final campaign at their famous Mestalla home and they kick off with a home game against Celta Vigo on Saturday.

Los Che were generally strong at home last season and should be able to put a few wins together for their fans to celebrate before they move to the Nou Merstalla, but they might start off with a defeat against a strong Celta side.

The visitors won both league meetings between these sides last season and have an impressive record against Valencia going back further – with four wins in the last seven meetings.

Os Celestes came in sixth in La Liga last season, three placed above their hosts, and they were exceptional travellers with the third best road record in the competition – with 31 of their 54 points coming away from home.

Celta can win as underdogs against a Valencia side who haven’t managed to strengthen significantly over the summer and a 2-1 win for the visitors has a chance. Both teams scored in both meetings last season and Los Che rarely draw a blank at home, having scored 27 goals in their 19 home games last season, so Valencia should be able to get on the scoresheet even if they can’t take any points.
