West Ham United vs AZ Alkmaar Predictions
- West Ham have won 11 of their 12 games in Europe this season
- The Hammers have won every home clash in the Europa Conference League
- AZ have suffered away defeats to Dundee United, Apollon and Anderlecht in this competition
Hammers’ Euro focus
A year ago, West Ham split their focus between the Europa League and a top four push domestically, which cost them with a semi-final defeat in a winnable competition. Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United ensures they won’t have the same concerns this term.
The Hammers have pulled seven points clear of the drop zone, with the sides in the bottom three having just nine more points available to them. Moyes will want to keep his team moving forward domestically, but there’s little doubt the opportunity for silverware and a return to the Europa League takes priority.
AZ’s away woes
West Ham are the favourites to win the Europa Conference League, having won 11 of their 12 matches in the competition. They’ve won every match they’ve played at the London Stadium, hitting four goals in back-to-back games.
Jarrod Bowen has been a key part of that great home form, with the winger hitting five goals across five home appearances in Europe. All 10 of Bowen’s goals across all competitions have come at home this season, so back the winger to punish an AZ side who haven’t impressed on the road.
The visitors have won one of their last four on their travels and they have struggled away from home in this competition. They lost 2-0 at Anderlecht in the last round, while they’ve previously lost at Apollon and Dundee United in Europe this term. Given the Hammers’ stellar record at the London Stadium in this competition, back them for a comfortable win.
