Western United vs Central Coast Mariners Predictions
- Western United have lost three of their last four games, slipping to 8th in the league.
- Central Coast Mariners have now lost six in a row and are rock bottom of the A-League.
- Western United have scored 23 goals in 18 games this season, averaging 1.27 goals per game.
- Central Coast Mariners have only averaged 0.9 goals per game this season with 17 goals in 18 games.
Western United need a return to winning way
Western United have seen their form fall off a cliff in recent weeks with the club slumping to 8th position and finding themselves five points behind Brisbane Roar in 6th place. Recent losses against Brisbane, Adelaide and Wellington have all been disappointing and the side could really do with a win with this fixture against Central Coast possibly coming at the right time.
Western United have averaged 1.27 goals per game this season but they have now gone three games without a goal as the team struggle for confidence in the final third. Defensively they have conceded 25 times this season with seven of those goals coming in their last four games with a massive improvement needed.
Central Coast remain bottom of the league
Central Coast Mariners have endured an awful season, picking up just 13 points and finding themselves bottom of the league by two points. Six losses in a row have decimated any confidence the squad had and they need to find a win desperately in order to end the season on a high.
Central Coast are the only side in the league to average under a goal a game with just 17 goals scored in 18 games this season. They’ve conceded 20 more than that, letting in an average 2.05 goals a game in a season they would rather forget. Another tough away trip awaits and the side will be hoping to find some positive on Sunday morning.
Wins are hard to come by for both sides
These two teams have found just one win between them in their last 12 games combined with their fan not having a lot to cheer about. We think that changes for Western United supporters this weekend as, even with their own poor form, they look a little more likely to find a win than Central Coast. We’re backing Western United to win on the full time market.
Western United have enough talent in the side, particularly in attack, to trouble any side and we think they might be a little more comfortable this weekend than in previous matches. We’re predicting that Western United to run out 2-0 winners and begin to get their playoff challenge back on track.
