Wigan vs Burton Albion Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews

These were the top two sides in League One last season and although Wigan came up as champions and with greater expectations, it is Burton who have made the brighter start. The Brewers are currently 4 points better off but Wigan perhaps are still the side more likely to have the stronger campaign.

Wigan picked up a few much needed results just before the international break. They claimed their second victory with a 2-1 win over Wolves at the DW Stadium and perhaps just as impressively got an excellent point at Brentford in their most recent match. A 0-0 draw and a clean sheet away to a Brentford side that had been scoring plenty of goals at home suggests Wigan have improved at the back and they have had to contend with a lot of injury problems which helps explain their slow start.

Burton though also headed into the international break on a positive note, with a 2-0 home win against Cardiff. They’ve only suffered 4 defeats so far and only one of those was by more than a single goal so, at the very least, they look like a team that is going to be well capable of competing at this level.

Overall though you have to say Wigan have a bit more quality in their side and they’ll be optimistic about their chances of moving up the table. Burton have really managed to raise their game against some of the stronger teams but it’s matches against the teams in the bottom half which are likely to determine their season. They are yet to win on the road but have scored in all of their away matches so far and will fancy they can do likewise here.  However, a rejuvenated Wigan should have enough to nick this so backing Wigan to win 2-1 at 8/1 looks like a good shout.
