Wolves vs Manchester United Predictions
Considering we’re only partway through August, it’s been a very busy time for Wolves and their fans. Coming into this match, the Midlands club have already played 5 competitive fixtures this season, although the majority of these haven’t exactly been taxing clashes for the players.
They beat Pyunik 4-0 at Molineux in midweek to progress in the Europa League, with that qualifier ending 8-0 on aggregate after their 6-1 aggregate win over Crusaders. The only real challenge for Nuno Espirito Santo’s came last weekend as they opened their Premier League campaign with a goalless draw at Leicester.
That wasn’t exactly an inspired performance from either side, but the hosts can draw a lot of confidence from their exploits last season. They finished 7th in their first season back in the top flight, and their most impressive performances came when faced with the bigger clubs in the division.
Indeed, Wolves beat Manchester United twice at Molineux last season and drew at Old Trafford, and the Red Devils weren’t the only victims of the giant killers from the Midlands. They picked up 16 points in their 12 meetings with Big 6 opposition, with 10 of those points coming on home soil.
Manchester United enjoyed a much more productive start to their domestic campaign last weekend as they thrashed Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford. However, the scoreline was rather flattering for the Red Devils and spoke more about Chelsea’s deficiencies than anything else, so Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be tempering expectations at Old Trafford.
Defensively they did look vastly improved, but the failures of last season can’t simply be swept under the rug. They failed to win their last 4 Premier League away days and only kept 5 clean sheets on the road all season.
Wolves, meanwhile, are unbeaten in their last 8 league games at Molineux and have netted an impressive 16 goals in the process. They failed to score against a Big 6 side in only 3 of their 12 league meetings last season and just once at home, so they definitely have what it takes to trouble this new look Manchester United back line.
That being said, Wolves didn’t keep a single clean sheet in these 12 meetings and now face a side that scored in 17 of their 19 Premier League away days last season. For this reason, we like the look of Both Teams to Score on Monday, and considering Wolves’ fantastic record against the bigger clubs, we’re also opting for a 1-1 correct score prediction.
