AFC Wimbledon vs Bury Predictions, Betting Tips and Match Previews

Having really got their act together over the last few months, Wimbledon deservedly retained their League One status on Tuesday night. For several weeks, Neal Ardley’s men have been resilient, organised and tough to breach. The Dons have done everything that they needed to in order remain in the division and they can now enjoy one final game in front of their own fans. Against a Bury side who’re on their way down to League Two, Ardley’s men will be looking to sign off in good style.

As has been mentioned several times, it’s been a dismal season for Bury; the Shakers are on their way down to League Two and have been for some time. Bizarrely, as they come here unbeaten in three, performances have improved of late, though the upturn in fortunes came all too late.

Wimbledon come into this fixture with an extremely respectable recent record; when they lost two on the bounce back in late March, the Dons could’ve slipped, but they’ve since gone on a six-game unbeaten run. Having denied the likes of Wigan and Scunthorpe and beaten Charlton during that time, the hosts will fancy their chances against a weak Bury side.

Interestingly, Wimbledon don’t have a good record against the lesser teams at home this season. Wimbledon are without a victory at home against teams currently in the bottom eight, though this shouldn’t put punters off. Such a record isn’t great, but nearly all those games, barring a recent draw against Oldham, came several months ago. The Dons’ recent form is far more important.

On recent evidence, having defended admirably against some top sides, Wimbledon should easily have the measure of the visitors. Quite frankly, if they perform as well as they did in any of their last few home matches, Neal Ardley’s men should end the season on a high.

What does bode well for the hosts is the fact that they tend to do well against teams who come forward. For all their flaws, Bury have tended to adopt a forward-thinking approach, especially in recent weeks. If the visitors push forward at Kingsmeadow (and they may as well) Wimbledon will back themselves to keep things tight before pouncing at the other end.

As several of their recent matches on the road have shown, Bury are capable of making headway offensively, though they just cannot avoid being caught out defensively. Wimbledon are backed to follow in the footsteps of Walsall, Bristol Rovers and MK Dons, who’ve all recorded routine home victories against the Shakers, though the hosts shouldn’t be expected to go mad. After all, the Dons have scored more than twice in just one of their home matches this season.
