Amiens vs Lille Predictions

Amiens had a very average season last campaign, finishing in 15th place in the Ligue 1. They were not too bad at home, picking up 7 wins and 5 draws over their 19 games, with just the 7 losses, accruing 26 points. Away from home they were the 2nd worst team in the league, picking up just 2 wins and 12 points. They had an incredible end to the season at home by their standards, going unbeaten in their final 8 games winning 4 and drawing 4. Part of this run can be attributed to the fact they faced weak opposition during that run (bar St Ettiene, who finished 4th), but even still it is an impressive feat.

Amiens had a very solid transfer window this summer, only losing one of their starting 11, namely right back Emil Krafth, who has moved to Newcastle United. Meanwhile they have spent nearly £15m to improve their squad, the most they’ve ever spent in a transfer window. They have brought in Serhou Guirassy who impressed on loan from Koln last season, as well as bringing in Gael Kakuta, Eddy Gnahore and Alexis Blin.

Amiens lost in their opening weekend fixture away at Nice, but this result was largely affected by an early red card from new signing Eddy Gnahore in the 27th minute, with the scores still set at 0-0.

Lille had an incredible season during the 18-19 season, finishing in 2nd place, after finishing in 17th place the previous season. This is their best finish since the 2010/11 season in which they won the league, with a certain Eden Hazard pulling the strings. They had the 2nd best away record in the league last season, tied with Lyon, as they picked up 32 points on the road with 9 wins and 5 draws.

Lille have lost a few first team players since the end of last season, the most notable of those being star winger Nicolas Pepe, who joined Arsenal for £72m. They also lost younger Rafael Leao to AC Milan, Thiago Mendes to Lyon, and Youssouf Kone, also to Lyon. In their place, Lille have signed Yusuf Yazici from Trabsonspor, Timothy Weah from PSG, among others, but the player we believe will have the most impact in Victor Osimhen, a 20 year old striker who moved from RSC Charleroi this summer after scoring 19 goals in the Belgian Pro League, from 31 starts. He went on to score 2 goals on his debut against Nantes, and we see his stock continuing to rise in the coming months.

We think this will be a close game with both teams getting on the scoresheet, and as such we are going for Both Teams to Score as the main prediction, but we do think that Lille will have the edge, spear-headed by Victor Osimhen, and as such we are going for Lille 2-1 correct score, with Osimhen Anytime Goalscorer.
