Atlanta United vs New York Red Bulls Predictions

Atlanta have been in decent form recently, winning 3 of their last 5 games.  During those 5 games, Atlanta have scored 2+ in 4 of them.  Atlanta sit 4th in the Eastern Conference, and beat 3rd place Montreal Impact 2-1 and 9th place Chicago Fire 2-0 from the Eastern Conference, while beating Minnesota United 3-0, who sit 5th in the Western Conference. Looking further back, Atlanta have won 8 and lost 4 of their last 12 games.

At home, Atlanta United’s form has been phenomenal in the last couple of months, winning all of their last 6 home league games, while only conceding a single goal. Prior to that, they struggled in their first 3 home matches, picking up just 2 points in 3 games vs Cincinnati, Philadelphia Union and Dallas, but they quickly found their feet after that.

New York Red Bulls have been in poor form over the last couple of weeks, being demolished 4-0 by Houston Dynamo away in their last game. The game before that they won 3-1 at home against Chicago Fire, but prior to that they were knocked out of the US Open Cup by New England 3-2, while also losing the previous game 3-2 away at Philadelphia Union.

Away from home, Red Bulls have had a mixed season. Their first 4 games were very poor, they got 2 draws against Columbus Crew and Sporting KC, (11th in Eastern Conference and 12th in Western Conference respectively) and lost to Chicago Fire and New England (9th and 8th in Eastern Conference).  They followed this terrible form up with 2 wins on the bounce, a routine victory vs 12th place Cincinnati preceded by a brilliant 3-1 win away at 3rd place (Western Conference) Dallas. In their last 2 games away their form returned to normal, losing 3-2 to Philadelphia Union and 4-0 to Houston Dynamo as mentioned before.

Atlanta have been incredible at home recently, so it’s very hard to see anything but a home win here, but we think the value lies in Atlanta beating Red Bulls by 2 or more goals, as Red Bulls have leaked 7 goals in just their last 2 games. Therefore we’re going for Atlanta -1 Handicap. Atlanta have conceded just 1 in their last 7 at home, so we think they will win to nil, and so we’re going for a 2-0 home win.
