Bayern Munich and Both Teams To Score

Reason for tip

Bayern Munich have won nine of their last 10 home Bundesliga matches and come up against a Mainz side that have lost their last three away league contests. But the 05ers have scored away at all three of the other top-four clubs recently and could get pas a Bayern defense that has shipped 12 goals in their last six league games.

Bayern Munich 3-1

Reason for tip

Bayern Munich have scored three goals in two of their last three home games. They have conceded exactly one goal in two of those games too while a 3-1 scoreline in Bayern’s favour has been the outcome in three of the last four Bundesliga meetings of the clubs.

Bayern Munich vs FSV Mainz 05 Predictions

  • Bayern Munich have won nine of their last 10 home Bundesliga matches
  • Mainz have lost their last three away league contests
  • Mainz have scored away at all three of the other top-four clubs recently

Bayern have regained the winning thread

Some sense of normality has returned to Bayern Munich following their midweek Champions League win over Lazio and they should be able to see off relegation-threatened Mainz on Saturday afternoon.

But concerns over aspects of the Bundesliga champions’ defending remain and that could give Mainz enough of a sniff of goal to register at the Allianz Arena.

Thomas Tuchel could recall Dayot Upamecano for this clash after the Frenchman was forced to miss Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Lazio through suspension. The Romans missed a big chance to open the scoring in that game before Harry Kane nipped in for the opener.

Mainz can make things interesting with a goal

The Englishman is one of the few consistent performers in Tuchel’s team and there appears to be more uncertainty than usual around several key players’ futures while the decision to part ways with the coach has already been made.

A half-decent side could potentially take advantage of the uncertainty, as Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen, Bochum and Freiburg have all done recently. But Bo Henriksen’s side are not in the sort of shape to do that and will probably fall to a fourth consecutive away defeat.

Mainz have lost their last six games in Munich, conceding 29 goals, and have lost 13 of 17 Bundesliga fixtures all told on Bayern soil. But they did score at Dortmund in December and both Stuttgart and Leverkusen last month, so there is some reason to believe they can breach a Bayern defence that has conceded 12 goals in their last six games.
