Boca Juniors vs Rosario Central Predictions

Friday’s Argentine Super Cup clash sees last season’s league champions Boca Juniors doing battle with cup winners Rosario Central at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas in Mendoza. Boca arrive as big favourites to lift the trophy and are expected to do so with few issues.

Overall, Boca boss Gustavo Alfaro has done a good job of picking up the pieces after taking over from Guillermo Barros Schelotto following the side’s Copa Libertadores final defeat at the end of 2018 to arch rivals River. He lifted the side up to a 3rd place finish in the league, securing Libertadores football and also has them on course to make it into the last 16 of said competition.

Some of the football the team have played under him has been pretty entertaining and the team are winning matches regularly; something they’ll be desperate to continue in this match with a trophy on the line. Having won 6 of their last 7 domestic games, Boca will certainly arrive confident as regards getting the job done.

Meanwhile, Rosario Central may well have lifted the Copa Argentina towards the end of the 2018 but recent times haven’t been great for them, all things considered. The Rosarinos put in a very weak league campaign and have just ended the Superliga season in a poor 20th place, as well as having been knocked out of the Copa de la Superliga by Aldosivi.

Central were a real force in Argentine football a couple of years ago, but they can hardly be regarded as that nowadays and have a squad that is pretty weak on paper. Arriving having lost 6 of their last 9 matches, recent form is not strong and there’s no doubting they arrive as huge underdogs in the tie.

Ultimately, it’s fairly apparent who the favourites are to win the match and that’s Boca. Whilst it’s true Central have been something of a bogey side for them in recent years, man for man, Boca are by far a better team than them and that’s something they’ll be hoping to translate into what we see over the 90 minutes.

Considering both teams’ current state, backing a Boca win looks the only way to play as far as the betting is concerned and provides good value at current odds. There’s a substantial difference between the two in just about every aspect that matters and we can envisage Boca holding their nerve in a comfortable 2-0 margin of victory.
