Burnley vs Lincoln City Predictions

Burnley put in another fantastic home performance last weekend as they held the rampant Premier League leaders Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor. This followed on from a defeat at Watford the weekend before to make it four wins, two draws, and two defeats in their last eight outings in all competitions.

This has put them in a rather comfortable position in the Premier League, sitting 12th in the table with a ten point cushion over the relegation zone. With such excellent home form they can be fairly confident of staying in the top flight now, allowing them to focus heavily on the FA Cup. We’re not expecting much rotation from Sean Dyche here.

Lincoln City aren’t going to be resting any players for such a momentous match either. They are one of the lowest ranked sides still in the FA Cup and face a lucrative trip to Turf Moor, as they look to continue their phenomenal FA Cup campaign.

The visitors beat Woking last weekend to take themselves three points clear at the top of the National League table. A return to the Football League certainly looks to be on the cards for them, but that won’t distract them from the cup games.

The last round saw them beat Championship side Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1 at home, and prior to that they knocked out Ipswich, Oldham, Altrincham, and Guiseley this season. Only two of these matches have been away from home though, one of which was a 2-1 win over Guiseley and the other being a 2-2 draw at Ipswich.

Burnley’s FA Cup campaign has seen them knock both Sunderland and Bristol City out with 2-0 home scorelines, the former of which was a replay after a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light. This highlights Burnley’s incredible home form, with them unbeaten in eight home matches in all competitions and winning seven of them. Their only failure to win was last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

This has been the case for them throughout the entire season. They have lost just three times at Turf Moor since their return to the top flight, and two of those losses were only narrow margins of defeat to Arsenal and Manchester City. Defensively they have kept five clean sheets in their last seven games as well, so things are expected to be tough for Lincoln City.

Considering the hosts’ excellent defensive record at home and the fact they are able to play a full strength team, I think another clean sheet is on the cards. Odds of 1/1 for Burnley to Win to Nil against a team four divisions below them are excellent value, so I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score predictions at 5/1.
