Crewe vs Exeter City Predictions

With the final part of the season drawing ever closer, time is starting to run out for teams to make a late surge for the play-off places, and if they are to accomplish that aim them they will have to overcome the sides who are currently in and around that battle. This weekend we see a fixture which provides just that battle as in form Crewe Alexandra welcome play-off hopefuls Exeter City in League Two.

Crewe Alexandra have enjoyed a run of seven league matches without defeat after grabbing a last minute equaliser against Oldham last week. The Alex were originally looking over their shoulder at the drop zone prior to this run but their form of late has been so impressive that they have left behind any fears of relegation and are now talking about making a late charge towards the play-off places. If they are to accomplish this goal, then a key factor is their form on home soil and they approach this match with the joint best home record in the division having claimed an excellent 35 points from their 16 matches at Gresty Road.

Exeter City suffered their first league defeat in four matches last time out when they fell to a 1-0 loss at home to high-flying Bury last weekend. It has been a period of transition for the Grecians since they lost their main attacking threat, Jayden Stockley, to Championship side Preston North End at the end of the January transfer window. Since then, their goal threat has not been as severe and they have had to become more reliant on a defence which is currently ranked as the joint second best in the division.

Although Exeter will point to the fact that they won in their last four encounters with Crewe, the home form of Alexandra is simply too hard to ignore. When you also consider that Exeter do not pose too much of a threat going forward and Crewe are enjoying probably their best form in front of goal of late, we think that backing a home win makes perfect sense in this fixture.
