FC Copenhagen vs Stjarnan Predictions

Copenhagen claimed a 2-0 victory in Iceland in last week’s away leg, can they build on that success when they host Stjarnan on Thursday night? The Danish Superliga side are looking good for a strong run in Europe this season, as they’ve just hit form as we head in to a crucial period in the European qualifiers. They’re out to ease in to the third qualifying round of the Europa League with a second leg success, and with things just picking up for the hosts they aren’t going to be looking to stumble through with a 0-0 here.

Stjarnan were in fine form heading in to their clash with Copenhagen last week, but the Urvalsdeild side were beaten by the gulf in quality. They don’t have the greatest European record to their name, and that was clear in a comfortable defeat to Copenhagen. Their hope of qualifying is all but gone, and it’s going to take some incredible comeback for them to make it in to the next round.

As for Copenhagen, they’ve just started to click as the Danish domestic season gets up and running. They slipped up in their opening Sueprliga match of the campaign, with a surprising home defeat causing concern. However, they have bounced back incredibly well to kick on domestically and in Europe, and that’s set them up to book a spot in the next round. There’s little doubt that Copenhagen will go through, given they’re favourites for this leg and tie, but can they repeat the comfortable victory from last week?

Copenhagen are on a roll ahead of this game, after three straight victories to nil. They’ve won by an aggregate score of 9-0 across those matches, while Stjarnan only just bounced back from a three game losing streak. The hosts have managed to tighten up in defence, and they’ll be looking for another clean sheet, while they’ll also be pushing forward to put some gloss on this scoreline.

Stjarnan have lost six of their last seven in this competition, and all of those defeats were to nil. We see the in form home side keeping another clean sheet here, while they should easily rack up goals against a team who have lost 14-1 across their last seven in this competition. Copenhagen seem to be in excellent attacking form after Sunday’s 4-0 win, and we’re backing them to win this game with a -1 handicap, meaning that they win the game by a two goal margin or greater.
