FC Dordrecht vs Ajax Reserves Predictions

The mid-season festive break can have varying effects on teams, and Jong Ajax certainly appear to have been hindered by their fortnight’s holiday over Christmas. After rounding off 2018 with four consecutive victories, the reigning champions have picked up just one point from three starts in the New Year thus far, and have fallen five points behind main rivals Jong PSV. Can Michael Reiziger’s side regain the winning thread this Friday when they square off against third bottom Dordrecht?

Jong Ajax began the year with an entertaining 2-2 draw against Jong PSV, but they’ve since slumped to lacklustre defeats against RKC (4-1) and Volendam (1-3).

Last week’s reversal against Palingboeren was particularly disappointing for Michael Reiziger’s side, as they’d previously won seven of their ten matches at Sportpark De Toekomst this season, demonstrating glimpses of why they were crowned champions last term.

Jong’s form and results overall have been inconsistent though as their record of ten wins, two draws and two defeats shows, and they pretty much seem booked for a mid-table finish this time around.

Nonetheless, Jong should be far too good for strugglers Dordrecht this Friday, a team who they walloped 5-2 in Amsterdam on match day 2 – their seventh victory from nine past meetings between the pair.

Currently third bottom in the standings, Dordrecht did pick up a 0-1 success over fellow toilers Jong AZ a fortnight ago, but that remains the only win gained under the guidance of new manager Claudio Braga after a 1-3 home defeat to Jong PSV on match day 22.

Schappenkoppen simply ship too many goals and have a tendency to get the odd hiding, as proven by 2-6 and 4-1 beating suffered at the hands of Den Bosch and Jong Utrecht respectively in recent weeks.

With 46 goals conceded overall, they have one of the worst defensive records in Eerste Divisie and they encounter one of the league’s best forward lines this week.

Jong have notched 41 goals in their 22 fixtures this season which rates as the 6th best tally in the second tier, and the likes of Danilo, Vaclav Cerny and January arrival Lassina Traore should get plenty of joy here at Riwal Hoogwerkers Stadion.

So we’re backing Jong Ajax to overcome their inferior opponents here, but we’re also adding both teams to score into our wager.

Dordrecht have managed to find the net at least once in 16 of their 22 games this term, and Jong’s defence is vulnerable right now after conceding nine in their last three starts.

This should be one of the highest scoring fixtures on match day 23 and we’re speculatively going for a 2-4 triumph in favour of the visitors in the correct score market.
