FC Oss vs NEC Nijmegen Predictions

Oss blew a decent start in the 2017/18 campaign to eventually fade into 15th, and there’s a danger that they’ll replicate that slide this term following four defeats from their last six outings in Eerste Divisie. They were ruthlessly blown away by league leaders Den Bosch in the second half at Stadion De Vliert last week, and spirits will be low in the TOP camp after dropping to 7th in the standings.

Oss are still comfortably in the Play-off places despite their dismal recent run of results,  but the five point advantage they hold over the chasing pack could quickly erode in the coming weeks if they don’t make the most of some favourable fixtures.

Four of their next five matches are against sides currently in the bottom half of the table which gives them a real chance to rebuild some confidence and momentum, and that run starts at Frans Heesen Stadion this Friday against an NEC team who they beat 1-5 in Nijmegen earlier in the campaign.

That was arguably Oss’ best result of the season to date and it should give them some inspiration going into this week’s clash – as will the 3-0 victory they posted over NEC here last term.

Oss need to put a strong performance in here for their supporters who witnessed a 0-5 drubbing at the hands of Roda JC before Christmas, and they have since only mustered a single point at home from games against strugglers Helmond Sport (1-1) and RKC (1-2).

It’s easy to see why the bookies have priced Oss up around the 2/1 mark for this Friday’s fixture based on such results however opponents NEC are in dire shape at present and are hardly worthy of favouritism.

After four consecutive Eerste Divisie defeats to Den Bosch (3-2), MVV (0-1), Twente (2-0) and FC Eindhoven (3-2), Jack De Gier’s men at least stopped the rot on match day 21 with a 1-1 home draw against Telstar, but that result still falls way below the standards that NEC should be setting themselves having challenged for promotion last term.

NEC appear to have gone to pieces since their 23 match home unbeaten streak was ended by FC Eindhoven in October, and they’re quickly losing sight of the Play-offs with six points now separating them from 9th placed Cambuur.

A victory here for NEC against a team who have more or less been up there from the off could do wonders for turning their campaign around, and they should be motivated to avenge that aforementioned 1-5 hammering dished out by Oss in October.

But they do ultimately to into this game without a win in six and make no appeal to punters at around the 13/10 mark.

We’re reluctant to throw too much support behind Oss here as they have been unreliable to follow this season, but they’re comparatively in a stronger position than the visitors and have clearly had the better of things in recent match-ups.

With that in mind, we’re going for minimum stakes on a home success with 2-1 our correct score prediction alongside this.
