FC Utrecht Reserves vs Telstar Predictions

Telstar’s wretched run continued on match day 26 with a 0-2 defeat at home to Jong Ajax, and the IJmuiden outfit have now lost their last four and are without a win in nine Eerste Divisie outings. Fortunately for Mike Snoei’s men, they have a realistic chance to pick up some points this Friday when they travel to Sportpark De Westmaat to face bottom side Jong Utrecht, who suffered their eighth consecutive reversal at home to Oss on Monday.

Something really has to give in this fixture as both teams seek to gain an elusive victory. Telstar are the bookies favourites, but a leap of faith is required to back either side based on their woeful campaigns to date and lengthy losing runs.

Telstar have been absolutely nowhere this term after a decent 6th place finish in 2017/18, and they are 20 points worse off than they were at this stage last season.

Friday’s loss against Jong Ajax was their fourth on the bounce, and the IJmuiden outfit have drawn a blank in front of goal in all of those games. They have won just one of their last 14 Eerste Divisie fixtures (a 0-2 success against Jong AZ in mid-December) and are nine points behind 15th placed Cambuur with 12 matches of the regular season to play.

The one positive for Telstar heading into this week’s contest is their positive head to head record against Jong Utrecht, and they notched their fourth win from five previous meetings against Robin Pronk’s side with a 2-0 victory at IJmuiden Stadion in August.

That’s barely enough to convince punters to support them here mind at a touch of odds-against, even though the hosts are rooted to the foot of the table with just 14 points on the board from 26 games.

Monday’s 1-2 loss against Oss at Sportpark De Westmaat was their eighth defeat in a row and Pronk’s side have shipped 22 goals in total across those fixtures. Jong have lost 18 matches in all this season and look set for a battle to the death with Helmond Sport to avoid the wooden spoon.

Jong will look to the fact that all three of their wins this term have been earned in Utrecht, but they simply can’t be fancied here at under 2/1,,, despite the poor quality opposition.

This clash really is a case of which side is in the worst shape, and without any firm conclusion, the match betting has to be avoided.

With confidence extremely low in both camps, we can expect a nervy affair at Sportpark De Westmaat this Friday and a lack of quality on show. The last three meetings between these sides have featured fewer than 2.5 goals, and we’re predicting the same outcome again here alongside a 1-1 correct score prediction.
