FC Volendam vs Go Ahead Eagles Predictions

Go Ahead Eagles responded well last week to their 6-1 hammering against Sparta Rotterdam on match day 26, as goals from Bruno Andrade and Maarten Pouwels sealed a fine 2-0 victory against an MVV side who travelled to De Adelaarshorst in search of their sixth straight league win.

The result further enhanced Eagles’ fine record in Deventer this term where they have now posted nine wins, three draws and just two defeats from 14 outings, but John Stegeman’s side still have questions to answer away from home as they prepare to hit the road again this week.

Eagles have lost five of their 13 away fixtures this season, including three of their last six, and it’s evident that the promotion hopefuls simply don’t play with the same confidence and fluency when on their travels.

Sparta ruthlessly exploited that a fortnight ago, and it’s the key reason why Eagles have fallen someway behind Twente in the title race, which now appears to be a foregone conclusion.

Nonetheless, Eagles will be keen to prove otherwise and they will feel that this Friday’s clash with Volendam offers them a decent chance to rack up win number 16 for the campaign.

Eagles brushed Palingboeren aside 3-0 in September’s reverse fixture, but Hans De Koning’s men should be harder to overcome here, considering they head into this week’s contest unbeaten in their last six league matches.

Indeed, Volendam are building a reputation for being one of Eerste Divisie’s toughest customers having lost just once since mid-December, but a glut of recent draws, including a 1-1 scoreline against 18th placed Jong AZ on match day 27, has not done them too many favours as they look to chase down a Play-off place.

The hosts are currently 12th and within striking distance of the top nine, but they are running out of time to get the wins on the board that they will likely need and a daunting fixture against leaders Twente in Enschede awaits next week.

So Volendam will be desperate to at least take something from this Friday’s game, and we think Palingboeren have the nous to share the spoils.

De Koning’s men have earned draws against 2nd placed Sparta Rotterdam (2-2) and 4th placed Den Bosch (1-1) in recent weeks, so they definitely have the ability to hold 3rd placed Eagle,s with home advantage in their favour.

This should be a fascinating clash between two decent sides, and we’re opting for a 1-1 correct score alongside our main match bet.
