FC Volendam vs Roda JC Predictions

It’s fair to say that these teams will be glad to see the back of this season, and we could be in store for a pretty lifeless affair as a result at Kras Stadion on Friday night. Both have experienced managerial changes this term to little positive effect and there is nothing on the line for either on match day 38 with the Play-offs out of site.

With Volendam winless in 12 and Roda suffering six defeats from their last nine on the road, this really is a case of trying to assess which side could be in slightly better spirits and motivated to go and get something from this dead rubber.

Roda JC were banking on a Play-off finish this season following relegation from Eredivisie in 2017/18, and things were looking quite positive for them midway through the campaign. Then boss Robert Molenaar had his side pitching around the top five following a run of five wins from seven in November/December and it looked as though the Kerkrade outfit would only get stronger heading into 2019.

But their results and performances fell off a cliff in the New Year, and Molenaar was sacked after his side dropped out of the Play-off places around the end of February.  Roda briefly threatened to get back involved under the guidance of Caretaker Manager Eric van der Luer, but their season was ultimately ended over the Easter period with a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Oss and a 4-0 hiding away to Telstar.

Last week’s 0-2 defeat at home to Den Bosch leaves Roda 13th going into this Friday’s fixture, and whilst they can potentially climb up to 11th with a win here, it won’t be good enough for a Play-off spot with only the top ten able to qualify.

With Roda likely to be feeling dejected as they make their lengthy trip up north, Volendam may see this as a good opportunity to bag their first league win in 13.

Palingboeren’s season has been over for some time now so they have got used to playing for pride, and last week’s 1-1 draw at Telstar certainly demonstrated a modicum of improvement after three straight defeats.

There will probably be lots of change at Kras Stadion during the summer but ending the season with three points will at least see them into the break on a high, and they will be further encouraged by their excellent head to head record at home to Roda with six wins garnered from eight previous meetings.

Needless to say, this isn’t a match to be throwing too much hard earned at, but we think Volendam are worthy of small stakes with a slender 1-0 victory for the hosts anticipated.
