      Feirense vs Maritimo Predictions

Feirense and Maritimo both head into Monday nights game in poor form. The host’s recent defeats in the league see them sat in the relegation places and the visitors losing streak means they have just one more point on the board than Feirense, but they do, for now at least, sit outside the drop zone. The two clubs met twice in the space of a month between late October and the latter part of November, and on both occasions Feirense beat Maritimo despite being away from home.

Lat weekend Feirense frustrated their hosts during the first half, and even on the occasions Benfica did break through the visitors defence their finishing lacked the conviction needed to break the deadlock. However, that all changed in the second forty-five minutes when Jonas eased the tension around the stadium with Benfica’s opening goal. Clearly unnerved by going 1-0 down the visitors then added to their own misery through an own goal from Bruno Nascimento in the fifty-seventh minute and Rafa Silva ended any faint hopes of a Feirense comeback with a third Benfica goal in the sixty-eighth minute. Substitute Seferović rounded off the scoring in the eighty-ninth minute to make the final score 4-0 to the hosts.

Setúbal needed just one goal to claim all three points from their trip to Marítimo last weekend, in what turned out to be a very competitive match at the Estádio dos Barreiros. The first half ended goalless as each team cancelled the other out, and with little between the pair it was difficult to see where any goals were going to come from. The hosts sat close to the relegation zone and weren’t supposed to be so tough to beat for their high flying guests, but Vitória Setúbal did eventually make the break through with five minutes left on the clock when Guinea-Bissau forward Frédéric Mendy put the ball into the back of the net.

The league form of both teams over the last few weeks has been some of the poorest in the entire Primeira Liga, but victories for Feirense over Maritimo in both the Taça de Portugal and the Taça da Liga will hand Monday’s hosts a much needed confidence boost. João Silva proved the bane of Maritimo’s lives during those two cup encounters, scoring four goals, two in each tie, to help Feirense on their way to victory.

We’re confident that Feirense will win on Monday, and have backed the final scoreline to read 3-1. Feirense have won three of their last five matches against Maritimo, and the visitors have lost their last six matches in all competitions. Feirense have won two of their last six matches in all competitions, both against Maritimo in Portugal’s domestic cups. The hosts have scored three goals against Maritimo in each of their two meetings this season, a trend we expect to continue in their next meeting on Monday.
