Genk vs Gent Predictions

Genk play host to Gent at Luminus Stadium on Sunday evening, as they look to bounce back after tasting defeat when last in action domestically. In contrast, the visitors will be hoping to go five league games unbeaten.

Having lost in the league last weekend, Genk would’ve been hoping to rebuild their confidence by getting a result at Anfield in the Champions League during the week. Unfortunately, the Belgians did taste defeat on Tuesday evening, but as they managed to get on the scoresheet and lose by just a single goal against the Premier League leaders and reigning UCL champions, Felice Mazzù’s men probably won’t be feeling too downbeat.

By what would certainly be their own admission, Genk haven’t thrived this season. They’ve not struggled but they’re certainly not doing as well as they’d like, as they currently sit in a modest 8th position. Fortunately, given the tight nature of the table, they’re only three points shy of the top three, while their home form suggests that they can do well in this fixture.

Genk come into this match with the third-best home record in the division. They’ve won five, drawn one and lost one at Luminus Arena. Moreover, the hosts, who’ve notched two or more in three of their last four at home, have started to create lots going forward on their own patch, which bodes well ahead of a game against a Gent side that struggles to keep teams at bay on the road.

It’s been a solid campaign for Gent, who’re currently sat in a pleasing 3rd position, but most of their good work has been carried out at home. Sunday’s visitors have found it very tough to be at their best on the road.

While Gent have the best home record in the division, having won seven out of seven at Ghelamco Arena, they’ve got one of the worst away records. Only three teams have accumulated fewer travelling points than Gent, who’re yet to win away from home, despite playing six times.

In the betting, ‘Genk to Score Over 1.5 Goals’ stands out as a viable option. The hosts have performed well from an attacking point of view at this venue of late, scoring eight in four, notching two or more in three of those. Moreover, in the last year, they’ve scored at least twice in each of their matches against Gent. Add in that the visitors have floundered on the road, especially from a defensive point of view, shipping an average of two goals per game and conceding two more in four of their last five, and it becomes easy to plump for home goals on Sunday.

Those interested in the ‘Correct Score’ market should try a 2-1 win for the hosts, who’ve had an extra two days to prepare for this game and who’ve won each of the last four renewals of this fixture. Gent have scored three of those, though, as well as in four out of six on the road this term, so plumping for them to get on the scoresheet in defeat looks to be the best option.
