Gibraltar vs Estonia Predictions

This Tuesday’s international friendly clash sees Gibraltar back in action at the Victoria Stadium, which has been fit for international action since the start of this season. That has helped them further establish themselves and they’ll be hoping to get a result here against an Estonia side that they have already faced three times on their short international journey.

Gibraltar made some serious strides forward in the Nations League. Their first ever competitive win was immediately followed by their second as Armenia and Liechtenstein both succumbed to the new boys of European international football. A couple of heavy defeats did admittedly follow that but they can take plenty of encouragement from only losing 1-0 to the Republic of Ireland in a Euro 2020 qualifier at the weekend.

Estonia are the sort of side where they will at least believe they have a chance of getting a result. Indeed they did hold the Baltic nation to a draw in an unofficial 2014 friendly match. Estonia got revenge by beating Gibraltar comfortably twice in World Cup qualifying but their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign got underway with a 2-0 defeat in Northern Ireland at the weekend. They also failed to really impress in the Nations League with only 4 points and a solitary victory over Greece to show for their 6 outings in the competition.

All things considered, it’s hard to see many goals in this game. Gibraltar have clearly tightened up defensively and look a more organised side now under new management and with a bit more experience of playing together. They are still short on any kind of real firepower though with just 10 international goals amongst the entire squad.

Estonia have failed to score in 6 of their last 9 matches. They also have form when it comes to slipping up against the minnows and they were the last team to fail to beat San Marino. They may also use this game to experiment a bit and field some fringe players so a relatively even game is possible here.

In official FIFA-recognised internationals, Estonia have only scored once in 7 away games heading into this. Having restricted Ireland to few chances at the weekend, Gibraltar should at the very least be able to keep the score down here and backing Under 2.5 Goals could be the way to go. Meanwhile going for a narrow 1-0 Estonia Win could be the smart bet in the Correct Score market.
