Helsingborg vs Jonkopings Sodra Predictions

The fine form of Helsingborg and their guests Jonkopings Sodra suggests we should be in for a great game of football on Monday. However, the tight defences both have kept over the last five matches suggests the game itself will be low scoring. Hosts Helsingborg sit in third place in the Superettan having played eight games, six points and six positions above Jonkopings Sodra, who have played an extra game.

When the pair last clashed in November 2016 both teams were plying their trade in Sweden’s top flight. The hosts that day were Helsingborg and an opening goal from their defender Helstrup after just seven minutes set the home side on their way to victory. Helsingborg took a one goal advantage into the break and up until the sixty-fifth minute Jonkopings Sodra remained in the game. Spaniard Álex Portillo received his marching orders at that point, being shown a straight red card, and the visitors never recovered after being reduced to ten men. Dahlberg would eventually seal the three points for Helsingborg in the eighty-fifth minute, but the striker was presented with a great chance to wrap the game up earlier when the hosts were awarded a penalty. His seventy-second minute spot kick was saved, but the forward spared his own blushes five minutes from time with the all important second goal.

Heading into Monday’s game there is nothing to separate the two clubs in the form guide. Both teams have won three of their last six matches, drawn two, and lost just the once, but something will surely give on Monday. The last five meetings between the teams have produced under 2.5 goals, and we’re expecting the same outcome this time around as well. Both teams have been strong in defence over the last six matches, never conceding more than two goals and keeping two clean sheets apiece. At the other end of the pitch neither side have managed to score more than twice in any of their last six matches, in fact the visitors haven’t scored more than two goals in a game all season. Five of Helsingborg’s last six matches and three of Jonkopings Sodra’s have seen fewer than three goals scored, all of which points to another low scoring match on Monday.

Ghana striker Moro top scores for Helsingborg in the league so far this season with five goals to his name, while Icelandic teammate Bjarnason has scored four times. Gwargis and Vilhjálmsson are both tied on three Superettan goals each for the visitors this season, and the pair will need to be marked closely on Monday as they clearly possess a threat in and around the box.

We’re confident that under 2.5 goals will be scored between these two sides in the Superettan match on Monday, with Helsingborg claiming all three points via a narrow 1-0 win. Neither side has given much away at the back in recent weeks, but Helsingborg are at home and have the more potent attack, which should see them edge the game.

Helsingborg Predicted Lineup: Hansson, Randrup, Eriksson, Johansson, Weberg, Abubakari, Landgren, Sundell, Svensson, Bjarnason, Moro.

Jonkopings Sodra Predicted Lineup: Eriksson, Siwe, Watson, Jallow, Liljebäck, Smylie, Crona, Al-Ammari, Gwargis, Orlov, Vilhjálmsson.
