Ipswich vs Aston Villa Predictions

Under new manager Paul Hurst, Ipswich Town have not enjoyed the best of starts and are winless after three matches.

In their opening match, the team managed to salvage a draw to newly-promoted Blackburn Rovers after an injury time equaliser from Tayo Edun. Against Rotherham away in their next game, the team saw another injury time goal, though this time it was a winner for Rotherham to leave the club with one point from their first two matches.

They were also embarrassed in midweek after they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on penalties by League Two side Exeter City. Although the cup would not have been a priority, to lose in such a fashion is still not acceptable for a Championship team.

The club have taken a risk  with a transfer strategy aimed at picking up star players at lower division teams. Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala have arrived from Hurst’s old club Shrewsbury, whilst Kayden Jackson has come in from Accrington Stanley after he scored 16 goals in League Two last season. It remains to be seen whether these players can make the step up to Championship-level but it has been a worrying start for Ipswich and could get worse against Aston Villa.

Indeed, Aston Villa have won their first three opening competitive fixtures for the first time since 1962 to put behind them a summer of uncertainty at the club.

Indeed, the club took advantage of poor defending to win 3-1 at Hull on the opening weekend of Championship football. They built on that with a dramatic 3-2 home victory over Wigan in their next watch, with a goal scored by Bikir Bjarnason in the 94th minute. To complete the record, they beat League Two side Yeovil Town 1-0 away in the Carabao Cup to make it a great start to the season for Aston Villa.

They have been dynamic in attack, scoring in a variety of ways, with a number of players getting on the scoresheet, such as defenders James Chester and Alan Hutton. The fulcrum of their attack comes from playmaker Jack Grealish, who the club refused to sell to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. He is now here to stay and can be one of the stars of the season if he carries on his current form. In addition, the acquisition of midfielder John McGinn from Hibernian also looks inspired after he got an assist and made a number of chances on his debut against Wigan.

The club seems more stable with new investors at the helm, and with such a positive start, Villa could be challenging once more for the promotion places.

Indeed, we think Villa will carry on their winning run against Ipswich, beating them to enhance the records they have broken so far this season. Ipswich have just not got going yet this season and with Villa picking up their first clean sheet against Yeovil, we think they can do it again with a convincing 2-0 victory to the away side.
