KR Reykjavik vs Valur Rejkjavik Predictions

Champions of Iceland Valur are going in search of another victory this week, ahead of their visit to city rivals KR. The two Reykjavik outfits are in very different positions in the table, but will their derby meeting change the outlook here? KR would love nothing more than to shock Valur at home, but the hosts are some way behind their standard of last season, and even then they struggled to claim points against Iceland’s top side.

Valur have lost just one of their last six meetings with KR, and they’ve claimed a victory in three of the last four. Can that run continue this week as they chase another Urvalsdeild title? The visitors have put themselves five points clear at the summit, and they can extend that lead with three points in this trip. They are deserved favourites for the game, with Valur possessing close to double KR’s points total this term.

The visitors have managed to win their previous six league games. That impressive run continued with a 2-0 win over Keflavik last weekend, in what was a bottom against top encounter. The champions showed their class with a comfortable win, and that form is set to continue in this visit to KR. There’s little the hosts can really do to stop it, after winning just once at home this season.

KR are coming off of a defeat in their last home game, as they went down to Vikingur. Those two sides are stuck in the middle of the table, so it’s not exactly the toughest game they’re going to face at this stadium. That’s set to be Thursday’s clash with the champions, who have won three straight away league games without conceding a goal. In fact, the visitors have been in stellar form on the road this term, as they possess the best away record in the league. They’ve let in just 0.4 goals per game away from home, with KR dropping off from last season’s strong fourth placed finish.

The hosts have lost three of their last five matches, and we expect things to get even worse for them this week. The champions have racked up some impressive form, and we doubt that this is the game where their run comes to an end. We’re backing a Valur win on Thursday, while we’re going for back to back 2-0 wins for the visitors, as that is our correct score prediction.
