With the Swiss Super League season getting back underway last weekend, all sides now know just what sort of challenges lie ahead of them in the coming campaign. Defending champions Young Boys will be looking to establish their dominance early as they bid to add another title to their collection but this Sunday they face the difficult trip to the Cornaredo to face a Lugano side who have caused them plenty of problems in the past.

The hosts endured a pretty difficult campaign last season and their eighth placed finish, just two spots from bottom in Switzerland’s top tier, will have been seen as a big disappointment. The omens so far this season have proven to be pretty positive as they enjoyed a pretty successful pre-season in the friendlies and they backed that up with an impressive opening day win on their travels to Sion.

Young Boys will have fond memories of the previous campaign as they romped home to claim their maiden Super League title by a huge 15 points. Their hunger for a second title may well have been questioned before a ball was kicked this time around but under the stewardship of Gerardo Seoane they certainly look like the side to beat in Switzerland this year. However, although the loss of Kasim Adams Nuhu to Hoffenheim will have done plenty to boost the coffers, it leaves a fairly sizeable hole to be filled.

The visitors are rightly favourites for this clash and the manner of their opening day victory over Grasshopper shows the quality the side possesses. The pre-season win over Feyenoord showed just what class they have at their disposal and given that they have won each of their previous four meetings with Lugano, they are unlikely to be intimidated by the trip.
