Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory Predictions

Melbourne Victory’s hopes of winning the Hyundai A-League Premiership took a potentially lethal blow last weekend as they were beaten 1-0 by current leaders Sydney FC. This leaves the hosts in 2nd place with 11 points between them and the leaders, and with just 15 points left to play for, it’s looking incredibly unlikely they’ll be able to catch the leaders.

This defeat followed on from three wins, one draw, and three defeats in their previous six outings in the Hyundai A-League. Prior to that three match losing streak in January they were in excellent form and looked like they would be able to gain ground on Sydney FC, but that has all changed now.

Perth Glory had a pretty disappointing start to the campaign as they won just three of their opening 13 league matches, but they have managed to turn it around in recent months and find themselves in a rather comfortable playoff position in the table. They are 5th in the A-League, just a point behind 3rd placed Melbourne City and ten points clear of 7th placed Wellington Phoenix.

Their thrilling 3-3 draw with Wellington Phoenix last weekend made it five wins, five draws, and just one defeat in their last 11 outings in the A-League. That defeat surprisingly came against the previously dreadful Central Coast Mariners.

Away from home they do struggle for victories though. They have won just twice on the road this season, although the fact they have only lost one of their last seven trips away suggests they are a very difficult side to beat at the moment. There have been a total of 27 goals in these seven matches too, so we can expect a high scoring game here.

Melbourne Victory have only lost two of their home matches this term too, and with eight of their last ten at the AAMI Park seeing at least three goals, the overwhelming suggestion is that this could be a thriller of a match.

I can’t see anything other than a high scoring affair here. Both teams have scored in each of Melbourne Victory’s last seven home games and in five of Perth Glory’s last seven on the road. We have already been over their recent history of high scoring matches too, so backing Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score at 8/11 looks a good choice. I’m also going for a 2-2 correct score predictions at 11/1.
