Middlesbrough vs Accrington Stanley Predictions

Middlesbrough’s three match unbeaten streak came to an end last weekend as West Ham produced an excellent display to win 3-1 at the Riverside, following on from goalless draws against Leicester and Watford and their FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday.

This throws their Premier League credentials into more uncertainty, leaving them down in 15th position with just four points between them and the relegation zone. They have won just two of their last nine games in all competitions and have lost five times.

Fortunately for the hosts they have been afforded a rather kind FA Cup fourth round tie against League Two side Accrington Stanely. The visitors drew 1-1 with Carlisle last weekend to make it two wins, two draws, and four defeats from their last eight games in all competitions.

This, along with their earlier season poor form, leaves them in a perilous 20th position in League Two, with the threat of relegation hanging over their heads. That’s extremely unlikely to alter their approach to the FA Cup though.

Away from home things are a bit worse for the visitors. They have lost six of their last eight games in all competitions, and Middlesbrough have managed to win four of their last eight at home against much stronger teams than Accrington Stanley.

Middlesbrough are also unlikely to make any major alterations and risk an upset, but there could be some changes. New signing Rudy Gestede could start after being utilised from the bench in the last two matches, giving Alvaro Negredo a rest up front. Gestede’s power will be a real threat to an Accrington Stanley side who have shipped 13 goals in their last eight away days, so odds of him to score anytime at 11/10 look excellent for our goalscorer predictions.

Another aspect to note is that Accrington Stanley have failed to score in six of their last eight away games, and none of these eight have seen both teams get on the score-sheet. Middlesbrough have only seen both teams find the net in one of their last nine home matches too, so odds of 10/11 for Both Teams Not to Score look incredibly good value. I’m backing that along with a 2-0 correct score predictions at 6/1.
