      Morton vs Partick Thistle Predictions

Partick Thistle will journey West to Inverclyde where they’ll be hosted by 3rd-placed Greenock Morton at Cappielow Park. Can Thistle kick-start their season?

It was heartbreak for Greenock Morton last week as they failed to progress to the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup. However, David Hopkin’s side is undefeated in the Championship and currently hold the 3rd place spot.

The Ton put on a brave display as they managed to take Premiership side Hibs to extra-time, but eventually lost 5-3. The Edinburgh club opened the scoring and went 2-0 up within the first half-hour, but Greenock managed to level the score before half-time.

Hibs continued to apply pressure, ultimately going in front once again and seemingly sealing their win, but Steven Whittaker’s stoppage-time own goal meant that the sides were going to play an extra 30 minutes of football. Morton held on well before Florian Kamberi scored his 2nd to put Hibs 4-3 up, before Christian Doidge scored the 5th and final goal of the afternoon, sending the Ton crashing out of the League Cup.

It’s still early days in the Championship to map out exactly who is going to go on and challenge for promotion, but Greenock have shown signs that they could do just that. They’re 3rd in the league, winning once but also losing to Ayr United, mainly due to their somewhat leaky defence that’s conceded 13 goals in their last 4 games. Thistle also have problems at the back, although they haven’t conceded as many, with just 7 goals against in their last 4 matches. Given Thistle’s most recent outing, and taking into account both sides’ defensive records, we’re going to back the visitors to win and for both teams to score, with a final result of 2-1 to Gary Caldwell’s side.
