NAC Breda vs Groningen Predictions

Breda are yet to win a game in 2019 and their lack of goals scored, coupled with the amount they have been conceding of late will be very worrying for the relegation battlers. Visitors Groningen used to make up part of the bottom three, but a turnaround in form sees them sitting in the top half of the Eredivisie table and just five points off the European places.

Breda scored two own goals during their trip to Amsterdam last weekend, eventually losing 5-0 to Ajax, and in truth it could have been a lot worse for the visitors who had just 28% of the overall possession and two shots on target. A twenty-sixth minute own goal from van Beek proved enough for Groningen to record an impressive 1-0 win over Feyenoord on Sunday, and on the balance of play, the hosts were good for their money as they had seventeen shots to Feyenoord’s five during the ninety minutes.

With both teams recent form in mind and their head to head record over the few years, we’re expecting Groningen to pick up another three points this weekend against a Breda side that can’t seem to keep clean sheets and have lost their scoring touch. Groningen have won four of their last six Eredivisie matches against Breda and will be confident heading into this weekends latest encounter as they have form in their favour as well as history. The hosts have lost four of their last five Eredivisie games, while Groningen have won four of their last five, which includes a 1-0 win over high flying Feyenoord last weekend. The visitors have scored in each of their last five matches and look very confident going forward, but the hosts have failed to score in four of their last five matches and haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last six attempts. All of the above points towards an away win for Groningen, but we think the game will still be competitive and fancy the final scoreline to be close.

Breda can’t wait to get their top scorer te Vrede back in the side, but injury has seen the nine goal striker miss the last four matches. Morocco’s Mahi top scores for the visitors with five Eredivisie goals, closely followed by Japanese international Doan on four. We’re confident that Groningen will continue their good form with another win on Saturday, and have backed a final score of 2-1 to the visitors. Groningen have both form and history in their favour, and look a much more confident side who know how they want to play and it’s showing in their results.
