Netherlands vs Germany Predictions

  • Netherlands have scored at least two goals in their last four head-to-head matches against Germany.
  • At least three goals have been scored in five of Netherlands’ last eight home friendly games.
  • At least three goals have been scored in four of the last six Netherlands games and eight of the last ten Germany matches.

Old rivals meet again

There’s no such thing as a friendly between these European neighbours, so there’s an expectation surrounding Tuesday’s meeting between Netherlands and Germany in Amsterdam.

The last four contests between the rivals have been crackers, during which time the Dutch have largely had the upper hand. Ronald Koeman’s side came from 2-0 down to draw in Germany in a 2018 Nations League clash a month after beating Joachim Low’s men 3-0 in Amsterdam. Then, when they were paired in the same European Championship qualifying group, each team won on the road with a boatload of goals adoring the games.

We can expect something similar here as neither team will want to give an inch to the other in the lead up to a World Cup where both will be among the favourites.

More goals for high-scoring Dutch

Louis van Gaal has enjoyed a positive start in his third stint as Oranje boss, with his side averaging 4.5 scored goals per home game during this reign. Likewise, Hansi Flick has galvanised a stale German outfit into something bright and exciting, led by Chelsea’s Kai Havertz and now featuring Karim Adeyemi and Jamal Musiala, although the former has pulled out through injury.

There’s so much attacking talent on show that we feel goals are very likely and the stats back up that assumption. At least three goals have been scored in four of the last six Netherlands games and eight of the last ten Germany matches.

Although neither nation has played many recent friendlies, we note that at least three goals have been scored in five of Netherlands’ last eight home games of this nature too. So ‘overs’ is the main play and a 2-1 home victory is our correct score forecast as we cannot resist supporting the Dutch to do what they have done in their last four head-to-head matches against Germany – score twice on the night.
