Newport County vs Yeovil Town Predictions

It is probably fair to say that the last few years for Newport County fans have been a bit of a roller coaster ride as they were bought by a fan who won the lottery and invested the club. County were then able to win their spot back in the Football League and, even though the money was cut, they were able to perform one of the best escapes from relegation in recent memory to retain their spot in League Two.

County remain a side with one of the smallest budgets in England’s fourth tier, but that has not let that stop them so far this season and, although we are still early in the campaign, they are currently the league’s surprise package as they are joint top of the league. This weekend they will be hoping to continue their excellent form as they welcome a Yeovil Town side who themselves are looking very capable at the moment.

The hosts suffered a heavy defeat on the opening day of the season to Mansfield Town, but since that point they have not looked back. County come into this match on the back of a four game winning streak in the league and with three clean sheets in their last six League Two matches, it is easy to see why.

Yeovil, however, should not be underestimated. They have also been impressive in the early stages of the season despite defeat on the opening day and, much like their hosts, they have also built much of this success on the back of a solid defence. The visitors defensive capabilities are only underlined further by the fact that they have kept a clean sheet in each of their previous four league matches.

Although the visitors are strong, it is hard to ignore the form the hosts find themselves in at the moment. They have an excellent defensive unit and have won all three outings on home soil so far. This, combined with the fact that they have come out on top in each of the previous three meetings between the sides suggests to us that backing a home win in this fixture is the way to go.
