Norwich vs Stevenage Predictions

Norwich City turn their attention to the League Cup on Tuesday night, as they look to finally secure a first victory of the 2018/19 campaign. They start the competition against Stevenage in the first round, as they look to emulate their run to the last 16 last term. Will they find a way past the League Two side, or is this going to be an early season upset?

Stevenage travel to Carrow Road following a bright start to the season, which has seen them pick up four points from a possible six. It’s a solid way to open their account for the campaign, as they aim to improve on a 16th place finish in League Two last term. However, the bookies seem to have ruled out any kind of play-off push from the visitors, while they can’t hardly boast much of a record in the EFL Cup to date.

Norwich have made a poor start to the campaign, following their mixed preseason. The club have sold off some top stars this summer in James Maddison and Josh Murphy, while they seem to need some added depth in defence. They’ve made an awful start to this Championship campaign defensively, having shipped six goals in their opening two clashes.

Norwich played out a 2-2 draw with a poor Birmingham side, before losing 4-3 at home to a West Brom outfit who struggled to create chances. The Canaries look far too open so far, but on the bright side their summer departures haven’t hurt them too much going forward. With their impressive attacking form, they should expect to land a first win of the campaign when they enter the EFL Cup this week, especially as they host a side two divisions below, and one who are unlikely to climb any higher any time soon.

Norwich beat Swindon, Charlton and Brentford to make the last 16 of this competition last season. They forced Arsenal to extra time at the Emirates before going out, and we expect them to make a winning start in their return to this competition. The Canaries should have too much for Stevenage, but it’s hard to see them keeping a clean sheet. The visitors have started with a 2-2 draw and a 3-1 win in League Two, and they should fancy themselves going forward in this clash. We’re backing over 2.5 goals here, while we’re going with a 3-1 win for the Championship outfit.
