Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in Leeds’ last five away league matches. Also, four of the last five competitive meetings between the clubs have seen fewer than three goals in the game.

Leeds 1-0

Reason for tip

Preston have not kept a home clean sheet all season and seem unlikely to break that sequence against an in-form Leeds side here. But the Whites score much less often on the road than at Elland Road. They average exactly one goal per road game in their last eight road trips and could settle for another 1-0 if Preston fail to register at all.

Leeds digging into Tractor Boys’ advantage

Playing before any of their promotion rivals on Boxing Day, Leeds can apply further pressure at the top of the table when they travel to out-of-form Preston North End.

The Whites closed the gap on Ipswich in the second automatic promotion place to seven points with a resounding 4-0 victory over the Tractor Boys at Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime.

Early kick-offs have not been a problem for Daniel Farke’s side of late with Leeds winning each of their last three in the timeslot with an aggregate score of 10-1.

North end’s form has gone south since September

Table toppers for a spell in September, Preston have sunk to below mid-table on the back of a poor sequence of results and do not appear to have what it takes to take all three points from this fixture.

Ryan Lowe’s side have been conceding far too many goals, including five in their last home assignment against Watford. They have not kept a clean sheet at Deepdale all season and seem unlikely to break that duck against the division’s joint-most prolific attack over the past 10 games.

However, history and form indicate this will not be a high-scoring affair with fewer than three goals the usual outcome when these clubs meet. Leeds have scored no more than two goals in seven of their last eight Championship away games and may settle for just the one here if they keep a third away clean sheet in five.
