• Real Madrid have failed to score more than twice in eight of their last 10 La Liga matches

Real to bounce back from Osasuna setback

Real Madrid relinquished top spot in La Liga off the back of last weekend’s surprise defeat to Osasuna, but after coming through in the Champions League at the expense of Benfica in midweek, they will hope to produce an improved showing against Madrid rivals Getafe.

The omens are good for Alvaro Arbeloa’s title chasers, as they have won 10 of their 11 La Liga home matches this season, while prior to their setback in Pamplona, they had triumphed in eight league games on the spin.

Los Blancos also have a strong recent record against Getafe, winning each of the last eight meetings home or away, although seven of those victories have featured a maximum of two goals (the other only had three) and another war of attrition could be on the cards at the Bernabeu.

Getafe can keep things tight

Real are not exactly in sparkling goalscoring form, failing to score more than twice in eight of their last 10 La Liga games, and Getafe can frustrate their illustrious hosts.

Five of Getafe’s last six La Liga games have featured a maximum of two goals, while they have only conceded 29 times in the league, which is a tally bettered by just five other sides in the division heading into this weekend’s action, and they all started the round inside the top six.

Scoring goals at the other end has not proved so easy for Jose Bordalas’ side – their tally of 20 is second-lowest in the division ahead of only bottom club Oviedo – and they may struggle to break down a Real side that should eventually edge to victory.
