Sociedad searching for first home win

Real Sociedad have been strong on the road so far this season, beating Cadiz and Elche 1-0, but their only previous outing at Estadio Municipal de Anoeta ended in a 4-1 hammering to Barcelona.

That game generally goes against the trend though, given eight of their last 11 matches at home have contained fewer than three goals.

Indeed, Imanol Alguacil’s side had the best home defeat in La Liga last season, conceding just nine times over the course of the campaign, with matches at Anoeta averaging fewer than two goals per 90 minutes.

Atleti hoping to build momentum

Atletico Madrid beat Valencia 1-0 last time out, registering their second clean sheet of the season in the process, but Diego Simeone’s side suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Villarreal in the other outing.

Los Colchoneros won 2-1 here on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign,  but that is the only time in five meetings that there have been three or more goals when these sides have met at Anoeta.

Five of Atleti’s last seven away La Liga outings have seen two strikes or fewer as well, so goals may not be on the cards.

I predict that there will be fewer than three goals in this game, but I also think both teams could score, with 1-1 my correct score prediction.
