River Plate vs Patronato Parana Predictions

Sunday’s Superliga Argentina action sees River Plate doing battle with Patronato at the Monumental. The hosts arrive as huge favourites to claim all 3 points and are expected to do so without any real issues.

River come into this game on cloud nine; after beating arch rivals Boca Juniors 2-0 at home in midweek to place one foot in the final of the Copa Libertadores; a competition they also won last year. Nonetheless, contienntal glory isn’t the only thing Marcelo Gallardo’s troops are targeting this season and as such, they must very quickly refocus their attention on the task at hand this weekend.

Indeed, with one of the strongest teams in the Superliga, Los Millonarios are expected to be a part of the title shake-up in Argentina but having taken 14 points from 8 games so far, the side have made nothing more than an average start to the campaign. As such, picking up 3 points on Saturday is of real importance and having won 4 of their last 5 games, confidence can certainly be high in doing exactly that.

Meanwhile, after surviving the drop on the average points table by the skin of their teeth last season, visitors Patronato are once again in for a year-long battle for their top flight status. A decent points haul of 12 points from 8 matches so far has them currently just outside the relegation zone but that’s something could change swiftly if performance levels drop.

On paper, the visitors are definitely one of the weakest teams in the division and if they are to survive once again, it’ll be mainly due to spirit and unity rather than any real standout quality. Patronato did manage to win 3-1 in the Monumental last season, providing a reason to believe prior to travelling to the Argentine capital but having scored just 3 goals in their last 5 matches, it is hard to see them posing too much of a threat this Sunday.

Ultimately, if River are to really push for the domestic title, this is exactly the kind of game they can’t afford to drop points in. Man for man, they are far superior to Patronato all over the pitch and should be able to prove that if they play to anywhere near their maximum ability.

All things considered, backing River to win to nil looks by far the best way to play as far as the betting is concerned and is something we’re more than happy to do. River have won 4 of their last 5 games to nil and with Patronato looking far from inspiring in attack, a 2-0 home win could well be on the cards.
