Ross County vs Elgin Predictions

Ross County finished bottom of the Scottish Premiership last season, and now they’re working to rebuild after a tough campaign. It’s been a year since they sold off Liam Boyce, and after a season which included a disastrous spell for Owen Coyle, they’re now gearing up for a season in the Scottish Championship. The goal is obviously to bounce back at the first attempt, but Ross County are going to need to up their game if they’re to storm the division this year. They kick off their new campaign on Saturday, with a home clash against Elgin City.

The hosts have been busy in pre-season, with five friendlies under their belt. They’re clearly hoping to hit the ground running, after slumping in their final top flight season. They have a great chance to start the new season with a win, as they take on League Two opposition this weekend. Can the visitors cause a massive shock and pile pressure on the Staggies from the very start, or will the hosts start a successful campaign with a comfortable win?

The bookies are clearly favouring Ross County, who are fresh off a 7-0 victory. They also have previous in this competition, given that they started off last season with strong displays in the group stage. They may have crashed out to Motherwell in extra time in the first knockout round, but they were unbeaten through the group stage, in a run which included a 6-0 thrashing of Montrose.

Ross County will be out to boost their form this weekend, and will expect to return to the level which saw them make it through last season’s group stage. That came on the back of some excellent defensive results, as they kept a clean sheet in all four group matches to progress to the next round. They have conceded in just one of their last six games in this competition, and we can’t see Elgin being the side to break that strong defensive streak.

The visitors scored the majority of their goals on their travels last season, and they failed to score in a third of their matches against League Two opposition. They are hoping for a more successful campaign this time around, but we’re not too confident. The visitors have lost to nil in five of their last seven trips in the League Cup, so we’re backing a home win and clean sheet, along with a 2-0 score prediction.
