Sirius vs Malmo Predictions

This game features the two sides in the Swedish top flight which have declined the most since last season. Sirius were a real surprise package in 2017, securing a top flight finish in what was their first top flight season since the 1970’s.  Meanwhile Malmo defended their title and looked destined to be strong contenders again this term.

However that certainly has failed to materialise. They’ve made about as bad a start as would seem possible for defending champions and already lie 11 points off the pace and down in the bottom half of the division. Given the Swedish top flight is only a 30 game season, it’s virtually impossible to see how they can get back into any sort of contention from here and even making Europe will be a big ask.

Staying in the division may prove to be an even bigger challenge though for Sirius. They are propping up the Allsvenskan with just one win so far and they are 6 points off safety, having played a game more than most of the sides above them. They returned from the mid-season break early on Tuesday but were beaten 3-1 at home by Sundsvall and already it feels that any regrouping they may have done over the hiatus has been ineffective.

It could be a different story for Malmo though. They looked like a team that needed a month off to get their house in order and they appointed a new permanent boss during that period in the shape of Uwe Rösler, most recently of Fleetwood Town in England. They are heading into a key phase in their season now with Champions League action also to come this month.

Malmo look capable of bouncing back here with a win but they still look a bit short at 1/2 to back outright. Going for this game to produce goals may be the better option. 67% of Sirius home games this term have produced over 2.5 in total. Those matches average a huge 3.83 goals and they are the team with the worst defensive record in the league, with 2.33 goals per game conceded.

If Malmo can respond to the new manager, they are quite capable of scoring three goals themselves in this match but they haven’t totally convinced defensively, especially away. They’ve let in 2.17 goals per game on their travels with 83% of those matches producing over 2.5 goals in total.

All things considered, it promises to be pretty open and backing Over 2.5 Goals looks good. Going for Malmo & Both Teams to Score could also be worth a point with Sirius in shocking form right now.
